Author:
Sumayyah Hussein
Details:
Softcover, 36 pages, 8.5 x 11 inches

Musa’s grandfather, Sido, carries a very special masbaha,

Olive wood beads from his father, date seeds from his Hajj trip, and pearls from his late wife’s necklace.

Each bead holds a memory, and Sido shares these stories again and again… until they start slipping away.

When the masbaha breaks and the beads scatter, Musa must find a way to hold onto both the beads and the moments they carry. But can love and faith keep memories alive when disease takes them away?

Does love ever disappear?

This tender story opens space for families to talk about memory, aging, and the love that never disappears. With warmth and faith, it reminds us that we can walk beside them with patience, compassion, and trust in Allah.

Beautifully written and illustrated books! Ruqa-ya's Bookshelf has filled a huge void in our community by bringing Muslim children's books with moral values that children actually enjoy reading and listening to.
- Hina Salim

I think we all know by now that Ruqaya's bookshelf books are hard to beat in quality and storytelling. Sumayyah Hussein is quickly becoming one of my favorite children's book authors. She tells a heartbreaking story of a grandfather who is slowly losing his memory and his own stories in such a way that is so relatable to any reader who is going through that experience. But she eases the heartbreak by shining a light of hope through the grandchild and how he beautifully deals with losing his Sido. I teared up and felt the sadness but felt hopeful simultaneously. Highly recommend this story and every other book written by Sumayyah Hussein.

Heba Subeh

This is such a beautifully written book. It explores the complex emotions a child may feel when witnessing the cognitive decline in an aging loved one. The author knows exactly how to tug at your heartstrings. I absolutely love this book. My kids have read it a dozen times in the past few days. Thank you for continously publishing books that speak to our children.

Alaa

Good read, shines light on elderly health and how we can both cope and be supportive during a challenging period.

This is such a beautiful and touching story. The character development and transformation unfolds so well. The feelings and reactions of the characters are so vivid and realistic. It was heartwarming to watch how Musa uses his creativity to help himself and his grandfather.
